This painting was created for a friend of mine, given to him for his birthday. It was inspired by a photograph I took while traveling through Central America.
As much as I would have loved to paint these scenes from life while I was traveling, it’s nice to have so many pictures from which I can recreate the scenes, even several years later.
This black sand beach was located on the Pacific side of Costa Rica far from the nearest town where my friends and I camped for a week. The palm trees above us provided plenty of coconuts to eat and we even found ripe banana trees with edible fruit, perfect for any occasion.
Although it’s been several years since my last international travel, I cherish the memories I created and use them as fuel to move forward and plan my next adventure. In the mean time, I’ll keep painting from pictures if I have to.
